My friend has invited our family to Passover Dinner. All she said was no cake. We are Lutherian, what can we bring? I usually bring a dessert or flowers, but I don't feel they would be approprite for this holiday.

i hope this is good enough for you.

Mock Oatmeal Drop Cookies ·

1 cup matzah farfel ·

1 cup matzah meal ·

3/4 cup sugar ·

1/2 tsp. cinnamon ·

2 eggs ·

1/3 cup oil ·

1/2 cup chopped walnuts ·

1/2 cup raisins

Combine matzah meal, farfel, sugar and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl. Beat eggs and oil until frothy in a separate bowl. Pour mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well. Fold in nuts and raisins. Grease a cookie sheet. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet, allowing 2 inches of space between cookies. Bake in a 350~ oven for 20 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Flowers would be excellent. When I invite (non-Jewish) friends for Passover I am usually at a loss when they ask what to bring - I tell them not to or maybe just fruit (or those Passover macaroons in the can)

Last year one of my friends arrived with a beautiful bouquet which was a very nice surprise and saved me from the awkwardness over food that may or may not be kosher for Passover.

Wine can be okay too but it must be kosher for Passover. The clerk at a good liquor store should be able to point these out to you.

I always love it when people bring flowers :)

and it may be safer than food in your case.

Look for- k for P wine in your wine store,

Yarden makes a few decent and afforable bottles. That's a good hostess gift...

I would leave the desserts to the hostess or other guests more familiar with the rules specific to pesach - I have had non-Jewish guests who were unfamilar bring fruit trays, as well.

I'd ask your hostess directly- she won't think anything of it, it happens all the time :)

It may be a little late but a lovely gift would be seder plate. There are many beautiful designs handcrafted by Jewish artists. This would be something she would be able to admire year round and use on those special occasions. Everytime she used it, she would think of you. Do a search on my site, if not a seder plate, you will certainly find something that would be appropriate and appreciated.

Bring patience! You won't eat for almost an hour after the seder begins

Flowers are very appropriate, and you can't get into any trouble with kashruth. Have a wonderful time!

Do you have a kosher bakery in your area? You can search online for one ...I ask because if you find one, you can go in and get any dessert in there :)
